If you’re traveling from the United Kingdom to Chile, there are some key entry requirements to be aware of. British passport holders can usually visit Chile visa-free for short stays, but must complete the mandatory SAG Declaration.
This page explains exactly what you need to travel to Chile, and how to get your SAG Declaration hassle-free.
Checklist: Chile’s Requirements for British Citizens
Before you travel, make sure you meet Chile’s requirements for UK citizens. You must have:

- British passport — Valid for at least the duration of your stay
- Visa — Needed for work, study, or long stays
- SAG Declaration — Also known as the Declaración Jurada SAG
You might also be asked for:
- Proof of onward travel — Like a return flight booking
- Supporting documents — Like accommodation details, or a business invitation
Visa travel rules for UK citizens
British passport holders can stay visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism and visiting friends and family. The visa exemption also covers certain business activities, like attending meetings, conducting market research, or exploring investment opportunities.
If you plan to work, study, reside long-term, or do paid activities for a Chilean company, you must get the appropriate visa through a consulate. This also applies if you’re visiting for tourism or business for more than 90 days.
Chile SAG for travelers from the United Kingdom
The Declaración Jurada SAG (SAG Sworn Declaration) is a legally required entry form used by Chile’s agricultural authorities. It was designed to protect the country’s ecosystem and food supply.
The Declaration form contains questions about the goods you’re bringing into Chile. You’ll be asked to declare any regulated items, such as animal or plant products, food, and other biological or agricultural materials.
You must fill out the form before you travel, whatever your reason for going to Chile. Even if you are not carrying any restricted items, you’re still required to submit the Declaration each time you enter the country. Only under-18s are exempt.
It’s important to fill out the SAG Declaration accurately and truthfully. Chile enforces strict biosecurity controls, and inaccuracies can lead to inspections, delays, fines, or confiscation.
Additional entry information
All visitors should be prepared for routine entry checks on arrival. Border officials may ask questions about why you’re visiting and how long you’re staying.
They may request supporting information, like details of your accommodation or return flight. It’s useful to have these details to hand so you can answer any questions.
If you’re traveling with minors, they must hold their own passport and visa (if applicable). Under 18s don’t need to complete a SAG Declaration.
